An Arabic Bibliography of Translation Studies: Reality and Perspectives
Hosted by the MESA Global Academy and Georgetown University's Center for Contemporary Arab Studies and Arabic and Islamic Studies department.

After being part of Linguistics, Translation Studies today stands as a discipline on its own. The increasing interest in translation and its wide range of practices, research, pedagogical approaches, teaching institutions and technical tools demonstrate its complexity and multidisciplinary nature, as well as its extended reach academically and publicly.

To discern this complexity and discuss the landscape of this discipline in Arabic, Dr. Hamid Alawadhi will provide a snapshot of the state of Translation Studies in the Arabic language. Based on his recently published work, the most extended one done to date in Arabic, entitled “Arabic Bibliography of Translation Studies”, he will explain how literature written in Arabic in relation to this discipline has been inaccessible through international online bibliographies such as St. Jerome’s Translation Studies Abstract and Benjamin’s Translation Studies Bibliography. In addition to the qualitative aspects and contributions of the bibliography, Dr. Alawadhi will explore how the work can be a source of bibliometric and scientometrical studies, as well as quantitative data analyses, for Translation Studies in Arabic.

The event will take place in English with live Arabic translation in closed captions. This program is made possible thanks to a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education for Georgetown University as a National Resource Center on the Middle East and North Africa.
