My pleasure, Beverly!

01:02:47
Hi Monica, I am at an HBCU and want to work with you?

01:02:58
Any insights for helping open the entrepreneurial capital pipeline to more diversity? Diversity within the VC community can be a limiting factor.

01:03:15
Going beyond attraction and participation, any further thoughts on what programs and resources we need to effectively serve diverse communities? What additional or different tools should we add to our tool box?

01:03:30
People have talked about metrics. Are folks tracking demographics for application based programs and events? I think events could be a pipeline for us to find more diverse speakers but comes at the cost of a few more questions for every event registration. (I personally think its worth it)

01:03:42

@Monica - I would love to connect with you. Bowie State is developing a nascent CoE for Entrepreneurship. There is a strong connection with Dr. Grant Warner at Howard to do the iCorps/H4X program as well,

01:03:57
any suggested training that can be offered to faculty and staff involved in entrepreneurship?

01:04:05
1. Does anyone have a list of resources, including articles, research, case studies, lessons learned, and best practices for educators invested in diversity, equity & Inclusion?

01:04:06
interested to hear best practice for online platforms to keep the community active online during COVID.

01:04:08

I mean training in social justice

01:05:11
Many E&I educators are not experts on DE&I. In conversations around teaching ethics in E&I, we heard many educators express hesitation to teach ethics as they weren’t experts. I imagine we’ll see similar hesitation around DEI. This would be a significant obstacle to making progress. What advice do you have for encouraging educators to speak to DEI directly in their classrooms and for breaking through this silence?

01:05:56
the Hacking4Resiliance program at Stanford is a 5 day program solving issues related to COVID all online. It is a great way to introduce students to the entrepreneurship/lean startup methodology.

01:06:20
Can you explain more about what these kits entail please?

01:07:17
Getting students to solve real and personal problems is a way to create an emotional connection with this stuff

01:07:37
We have a new training available for students talking about engagement with our larger community along with the University's historical context as perceived by the University that has a heavy focus on understanding your own diversities, similarities, and how that interacts with our external support through the Center of small businesses, for example.

01:07:54
Kesha - love the blog post from UNC, so well done (and hi from down the street!) Here's a post that our team at CASE (Duke Fuqua School of Business SocEnt center) posted with some of the DEI actions that we are taking - we are very much still learning but thought it might have some usefulness for others: https://centers.fuqua.duke.edu/case/2020/06/04/a-message-from-case-on-racial-justice-in-america/

01:08:06
This afternoon at my school, the Smith School at UMD, we are having Smith Solidarity afternoon where we are encouraged to spend the afternoon reading, learning, acting, etc about diversity and inclusion. So, I think my center will do more of this type of activity where we set aside dedicated time for our staff, board members, students and faculty to have dedicated time to learn, brainstorm, etc. about racial inequities and how we make a real impact.

01:08:22
Cool. Let’s teach out to d.school folks as well as Haas and CSRE.

01:11:00
+1 to Rachel’s question on advice for encouraging educators to speak to DE&I directly. Any resources to support educators to have productive conversations on these topics, especially knowing that so much education is online and missing the in-person components?

01:11:08
Hi Erin, thanks for sharing! We are all working on improvement our work and commitment to DEI. I'm sure there are ways we can collaborate and share best practices! I sent you a request and look forward to connecting.

01:11:46
Can we get an example(s) of reflection questions?

01:12:00
We just went through a schoolwide exercise of tracking all speakers for the past year by race and gender, when possible. It was eye opening for many to see the numbers in writing. What's measured matters.

01:12:01
Check dates is a lesson for us all. This session has been scheduled on Eid!

01:12:03
Can we get a copy of this awesome chat transcript to facilitate connecting on LinkedIn?

01:12:16
Great comments, thank you everyone! Quick feedback, for someone from Europe, this session is very US focused. If we are to deal with systemic problems, maybe it’ll help to hear from people who operate in a variety of systems.

01:12:24
Thanks Keysha!

curious where putting real points on the board and spinning out successful self sustain ventures (for profit, non profit, social, local, etc) factors into the conversation and DEI and designing for

01:14:39
those outcomes

01:14:46
2. Does anyone have a list of resources and articles for our diverse and underserved students who typically encounter implicit bias in their daily lives and particularly from investors?

01:15:03
How can we get to the resources share here on chat?

01:15:36
It will be available post event! :)

01:15:53
at Emory-Goizueta business school we are working on a research project (with students on the team) to identify strategies to better engage and support Black entrepreneurs and Black students in Atlanta, by interviewing alumni, entrepreneurs, DEI officers, investors and other catalysts in our local ecosystem.
